Artist Bio
Until recently, I didn't think I had an artistic style or vision. I always thought I sat down to draw, or went out to take photographs, and I just captured what interested me. I've just come off of a very long hiatus on drawing and painting, and I have quickly learned otherwise. Perhaps I needed time to reflect on what really defined my art, or perhaps it was just that I spent so much time throwing out images that don't define me. These days it seems my photographs look like old drawings, and my drawings look like old photographs. Fantastic or realistic, portrait or landscape, there is always that similar vein running throughout. And that, perhaps, is my artistic style. Like the paintings of Normal Rockwell or the hardboiled detective novels of Raymond Chandler, I favour images that hark back to a time that really never existed. Perhaps for brief moments, but never for any sustainable time. But that is work of many artists, is it not? Not entirely to document real life, and not entirely to create a fantasy world. But to picture the real world, in the way the artist wishes the real world to be. And that is what you see here.
