THIRD THURSDAY - Glens Falls Art Walk
< GO BACK
OCTOBER 2009
Rock Hill Bakehouse Café, 19 Exchange St., will feature selected pieces from the World Awareness Childrens Museums International Youth Art Exchange Program in a new exhibition Feast for Your Eyes. The artworks were selected from over 6,000 pieces of international youth art in the Museums collection. Cultural foods and related traditions are colorfully depicted in the paintings, block prints, watercolors and drawings representing nine different countries. Randy Girard will also be performing selections from his Wastelandic Underground series (5:30 & 6:30). Mr. Girards unique readings with musical accompaniment should not be missed.
Achenbachs Jewelers, 220 Glen St., will be featuring Jody Marchese a thirty something local artisan, born and raised in upstate New York. Jody currently resides in Hudson Falls and lives with her wife and their twin daughters working daily from her home studio. Jody started out over 10 years ago weaving traditional American style baskets and making beaded earrings and pins using basic techniques. In more recent years she has started designing fine silver jewelry using a product developed in Japan that once fired at high temperatures resolves to 99% pure silver. Tom Myott will also be featured at Achenbachs Jewelers, where he will be creating a new piece live during the Art Walk reception.
Sterling & Co., 203 Glen St., will be hosting author Jessica Kane in their lovely courtyard tea room. Mrs. Kane has just completed her first collection of stories called Straining to Parallel Park in an Empty Field which will be released August 2009 on audio. Jessica writes primarily about the adventures she has everyday while on errands. She has also been published in Prevention Magazine, and wrote a column for the Adirondack Journal. She lives in the Adirondacks with her husband, Chris, and their dog, Sir, and cat, SeaLips, and has an MFA in creative writing from Sarah Lawrence College.
UnCorked, 217 Glen St., is featuring singer/songwriter Amy-Lin Slezak Nelson. Amy-Lin comes by her country roots honestly, as she is a native of Galway, NY. She first began writing songs about her small town life and experiences while studying voice at SUNY Fredonia. After graduation, Amy-Lin moved on to the University of Memphis, where she earned an interdisciplinary degree combining studies in Music, Opera and Theatre. After spending a decade down south, Amy-Lin has returned to her hometown, and her roots, in upstate New York.
